Halswell Quarry Trip

What a wonderful, sunny day we had at Halswell Quarry last Wednesday. It was great learning outside in the park, especially having Park Rangers to teach us about the environment. Our activities were...
  • Take a blinded folded friend on a tree walk and describe the tree
  • Bug and insect hunt with a microscope
  • Tree and insect game with our parents
  • Puppets and story - learning about keeping the park clean
Thank you to all the wonderful parents for helping transport us all over to Halswell Quarry and helping out with the groups!!

Christchurch Museum Came To School
Have a look at what we did when we had a visit from the Christchurch Museum. We learnt how to use some treasures from Early Polynesian Life. We were also shown some of the damage that was done in the museum when the earthquake happened in February and June. We are all looking forward to visiting the museum now as all the things have been repaired.

What a Sporty Class!!
In term two we focussed on a range of different skills for winter sports in hockey, basketball, soccer, netball and not forgetting ball skills. We applied these skills in simple games. For the first part of term three our class are learning new skills in soccer.

Lachlan has become the teacher because he has been playing soccer for a long time and has many skills to teach us. Today Lachlan has taught us how to dribble with the right technique, making sure that we use our sides of our feet and not to go too fast so we have control of the ball. We all look forward to him teaching us new skills in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Jake who is the Player of the Year for his rugby team in 2011!!

Cricket Coaching
We had fun learning new skills in cricket, even though it was freezing outside.

Shared Book
Last week our shared book was called 'Fearless Phil' Written by Jill Eggleton and Illustrated by Raymond McGrath. Jill Eggleton writes lots of different stories which we read in class. We all enjoyed reading 'Fearless Phil' and there were some tricky words too which we learnt. Our class are working on reading together, reading without mistakes and reading with expression (pausing in all the right places). Have a listen....
