Writing
In room 12, we love writing about our everyday experiences and always write for a purpose. To improve our writing we do writing in different ways. Sometimes we may write a...
- Recount - our everyday experiences
- Cameo - short piece of descriptive writing
- Recraft - make our sentences more interesting and not boring
- Teacher Dictation - sounding out those tricky words
- Environmental - sketching our surroundings and write about it
- Exploring Language - adjectives, verbs, rhyming words, conjunctions, similes, metaphors or personification etc
- Genres - narratives, transactional, poetic
At the beginning of each session we always have a large written model. As a class we discuss different aspects of it and sometimes we may do a piece of writing together. This shows us what things to include in our own writing. There is always a goal we have to achieve. Before we start, we each get a small copy of the model to stick in our book. This allows us to highlight things we like or sometimes we may have to find something specific i.e adjectives. When we are finished, Miss Campbell highlights where we have achieved the goal.
Cameo and Recrafting Writing
Have a look at some cameo writing we have completed. Can you see all the adjectives we used to describe the food.
Pencil Grip
I have pinched this idea from room 17's and room 4's blogs. Have a look at the correct way to hold a pencil. Can you hold your pencil like this and write neatly?
Fun With Bubbles
I blew a bubble and it disappeared. Samantha
I blew a bubble and the bubble was big. Lachlan
My bubble went over my head, around my pocket and into my underwear. Archie
My bubble floated into the air and popped! Fynn
I blew a bubble and the bubble flew into the air and then it popped. Lauren
What are our goals for the Junior Duathlon?
Grasshopper
Leonie found a dead grasshopper in her garden and brought it into the classroom to share for news. We were all fascinated with how small and fragile it looked. The next day we used a magnifying glass to look at it more closely!
Statistics
We have been learning about pictographs at school.
Before we created a pictograph we needed an investigation question. Our question was 'How do we come to school?' To gather the information we used a tally chart. We had to remember that if the total was big, we had to group in lots of 5.
A Pictograph Needs:
Bar Graphs
Today we had a new investigation question 'What sports does room 12 like to play?' Instead of making a pictograph we made a different kind of graph - a bar graph
A Bar Graph needs
- Title
- Sub Headings
- Vertical and horizontal axis
- evenly spaced numbers and names
- Evenly spaced bars
- Straight bars
We have 23 wonderful children in our class who show a love for learning!!

What a fantastic class. Your graphs are well done.
